Art & Visual Thinking Project #2- "The Dead Tree"

My secound big project is done for Art & Visual Thinking. We had to make a landscape out of paper with nothing drawn. I created a scene of the seashore at sunset. On the cliff above the water is a dead tree.

I used cardstock, tissue paper, and a scrap of artist paper from Stampington & Co.

Art & Visual Thinking Project #1- "PhantomBeauty"

My first big project for Art and Visual Thinking was an abstract painting that represents me. It was a very interesting piece to do.

The steps I had to take in this project:
#1- Create 6 thumbnail abstract designs that represent me. I created an image of a woman reaching for a star over a mountain.
#2- Create 6 thumbnail designs with my name. I used an image of my name in block letters.
#3- Pick one of the abstract images and one of the name images. Enlarge them to the desired size.
#4- Cut the images into 9 equal-sized pieces and mix it up!
#5- Transfer these new images onto a piece of matte board. overlap the images as you desire.
#6-Paint the final image using one color family. I choose to use my favorite color family, Cold Colors. My name is in shades of blue with a green boarder, and my abstract image is in shades of purple.

When I had to cut up my images and re-arrange them I thought my teacher was mad. I also did not enjoy trying to mix my paints to get the desired colors. But I have to say that I really like how the project came out in the end, even if I dug my heals in during the process.

Potato-Greg

This semester at NCC (Northampton Community College), Iam taking an art class. I take any and all chances to take an art class of any sorts. This class is "Art and Visual Thinking" and offers a variety of projects that using a range of art supplies. Today at our second day of class, we made veggie people. Our project was to create a profile of a person using fruits and veggies that we brought from home. I created this guy from 2 red potatos, 2 peppercorns, and a few toothpicks.

On closser inspection, I noticed that he looked just like my older brother Greg, so I named him Potato-Greg. The only downside to creating art from food, is when it spoils, thank God for digital cameras, so Potato-Greg can live on.

Matchbox-drawers swap - Sent

This is the set of matchbox drawers that I made for my partner. It is the first time that I have made a set of drawers our of 32 count matchboxes. I hope she likes it. it will be mailed out in the morning.

Ransome Note Postcard Swap -Sent

"Give me $100,000,000 dollars or the bunny gets it, No Police!" My partner for this swap had mentioned that hse had a bunny doll that she loved, so I used that idea for this fake ransome note postcard. I took a photo of one of my own bunny dolls tied up and mailed it to her.

These swaps are ready to be sent out. These ATC's are for "Fairy ATC" Swap. I love the 1st one "Fairy Tea", as you can see they both are very vintage in style since I used some vintage images I had in my stash.

I made this paper doll for the "Altered 'Paper' doll swap. I named her the "Wise Old Woman" and made her head out of clay. I wish I could honestly say that I sculpted that face, but i am not that talented. I found a great mold and used that. I like how she came out.

My First Fairy Jar

I made this Fairy jar for the "Make a whish for your fairy jar" Swap. This is the first fairy jar that I have ever made. I had alot of fun with it and I hope that my partner likes it.

Power/Talent: Invisibility, flight, causing confusion and slight mischief.
Further Information: While you have your back turned Rosebud will sneak up and take your beads, buttons, thread, ribbons, thimbles, needles, and any other little trinket she can get her hands on. She enjoys watching the confused look on her victim’s face when they turn back around and can’t find the object they were just about to use. It is believed that she will one day grow out of this habit and develop more beneficial habits and powers.

Ransom Note - Sent

This was for one of the swaps I hosted. I thought it would be fun if we created silly ransom notes to send to our partners. Here is the one I created for my partner. She is into crocheting so I thought that I could hold her crochet supplies for ransome (I silly ransome I might add).

It says:
I have you crochet supplies. You want proff? Here it is!!!
Don't call the police if you know what is good for you. If you want your supplies back then you must stand on your head and recite the pledge of alligence in pig latin. Then you must bring $100 to the far corner of main street. Place the money under the mailbox and leave.
Remember, if the police are involved you will say farewell to your stuff forever.

This is the pin and box that I made for Agonysdecay. I sent her a few more surprises, and she was the one to send me that cool Labyrinth Matchbox in return. I always have fun swapping with her since we have simular intrests.

The Art History Project (pt.1)

I had an elective, so I looked down the lists of the classes that I can use to fill this elective. I really wanted an art class of some sort. My eyes fell on ARTA101 A.K.A Art History. SO I signed up. I did not realize at the time that I would actually enjoy that class. Now don't get me wrong, I love art! I wanted to get a better idea of the different types of art out there (maybe that would make me a better artist or inspire me to create a masterpiece).
I learned alot in that class and my teacher is a very agreeable woman. The final project was a Gallery/Museuem critique. So I set out to visit the Met (Among the other topics I placed in the book). Here are some photos of art that I critiqued for this project.

My Button Fairies are ready to fly

These are button fairies I made for a swap I am participating in. I love how they look, even though my camera did not do a good job of capturing them. They are Beautiful and fun to make.
